Bristol, TN -- The CASCOR SuperCup Series headed to the Bristol Motor Speedway for the first time in Cup series history on March 19th, 2012. But it wouldn't be your typical Bristol race, wrecks were not the norm, green flag racing was.Mike Husby and Pete Engelmanas would make up the front row with Husby choosing the outside line for the start of the Food City 150.
Pete Engelmanas would take the early lead, leading the first nine laps before Husby took over the lead on lap 10, leading 55 laps.
Julian Madore took over the lead on lap seventy-five and attempted to stay out on old tires late in the race. But was unable to keep up with the faster cars on new tires, relinquishing the lead to Pete Engelmanas with 14 laps to go.
Englemanas hold onto the lead for the next thirteen laps before a last lap pass saw Mike Husby take the lead and the win coming out of turn 4. Husby went on to win his first ever race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Engelmanas finished 2nd, Julian Madore managed to bring his car home 3rd, David Damboise 4th and Andrew Hayes rounded out the top 5. Wayne Osborne finished 6th, Austin LaPlante 7th, and Chris Swett rounded out the finishing order in 8th.
Next time the SuperCup Series hit the track would be at the Talladega Superspeedway. But after such an exciting race at Daytona, would the SuperCup Series drivers be able to match it? Or would it be a little more tame? Stay tuned to find out what happened at Dega!
