Talladega, AL -- The CASCOR SuperCup Series returned to Super Speedway racing at Talladega Superspeedway on March 26th, 2012. But would we see another exciting race, like we saw at Daytona? Or would this race fall short of expectations?Julian Madore took his 2nd SuperCup Series pole (which was also his 2nd pole at Talladega) with Mike Husby starting on his outside to make up the front row.
Madore jumped out to the early lead at the drop of the green flag and led the first sixteen laps before green flag pit stops took place on lap 17. Madore had issues getting up to speed and fell back out of the draft due to first gear being too slow to get up to speed.
As the field cycled back around, Pete Engelmanas was scored as the leader. Shortly after Tyler Tucker took over the lead the next lap.
The lead swapped nine times between 6 drivers over the course of the race. Two more green flag pit stops would take place before the first and only caution of the night came out on lap 47 for a transmission failure by Tyler Tucker.
Several drivers that were caught a lap down because of green flag pit stops were able to be waved around under this caution period and got back on the lead lap. With all drivers now on the lead lap it was any ones race to win.
Pete Engelmanas and Wesley Hoag led the field back to the green flag with 4 laps to go. Engelmanas would hold off the hard charging field behind, as Brent Sweet and Bertus De Jong tried to do something to take the lead but came up short.
Engelmanas wins his 2nd race of the season. Bertus De Jong ties his career best finish of 2nd, Brent Sweet 3rd, Andrew Hayes 4th and Julian Madore rounded out the top 5. Mike Husby finishes 6th, Ben Althen 7th, David Damboise 8th, Chris Swett 9th and Wesley Hoag rounded out the top 10. Tyler Tucker, Austin LaPlante and Wayne Osborne retired from the race.
