Daytona Beach, FL -- The CASCOR SuperCup Series returned to the Daytona International Speedway last week Monday. With a new car and new rules, it was bound to be an exciting race.
Matt Riley took the pole for the Shootout Open but had to retire from the race due to connection issues. But when all was said and done Andrew Hayes worked his way from an 8th place starting position to advance into the TuckGraphics.com Shootout. Chris Swett (2nd), Robert Hill (3rd), Ben Althen (4th), Alex Boffoli (5th), Bertus De Jong (6th) and Wayne Osborne (7th) all advanced to the TuckGraphics.com Shootout.
As a result of Matt Riley's troubles, Austin Penney was awarded the final starting position for the TuckGraphics.com Shootout and was not about to disappoint.
The field for the TuckGraphics.com Shootout was set by a random draw and Pete Engelmanas was the lucky driver to draw the pole position. SuperCup Series rookie Wayne Osborne took the 2nd position and started alongside Engelmanas.
Mike Husby would work his way up through the field from his 15th place starting position to take his first ever win at the Daytona International Speedway in his NR2003 career. Frankie Stickley finished 2nd, Brent Sweet 3rd, Matt Trace 4th and Austin Penney rounded out the top 5. Julian Madore finished 6th, Tyler Tucker 7th, Alex Boffoli 8th, Bertus De Jong 9th and Chris Swett rounded out the top 10. Pete Engelmanas who had led the most laps (32) finished 11th, (Shootout Open winner) Andrew Hayes 12th, Ben Althen 13th, Wayne Osborne had engine troubles relegating him to 14th and Robert Hill rounded out the finishing order in 15th.
Tonight the CASCOR SuperCup Series heads back to Daytona to get the season underway in the Daytona 200. If you haven't already done so, make sure you get your entries in before 6:30pm EST. You won't want to miss it!
