Daytona Beach, FL -- The CASCOR THL Truck Series started the 2012 season off two weeks ago at the Daytona International Speedway. And, as always, put on yet another exciting race for Speedweeks 2012.
Pete Engelmanas grabbed the pole, while Austin Penny starting alongside the front row for the Next Era Energy Resources 125 at Daytona.
The race went caution free for the first forty-three laps which included multiple lead changes and some incredibly intense racing. But the caution would come out for a stopped truck on the apron of turn 4. CASCOR officials were not pleased with the driver, as he was asked to park for the remainder of the event.
Pete Engelmanas and Mike Husby led the field back to the green flag with 4 laps to go. Both Engelmanas and Husby would work together until turn 4 coming to take the white flag. Husby dropped low in an attempt to take the lead as Tyler Tucker moved into the middle lane, making it three wide for the race lead going into turn 1.
Carnage would break out as Team RedBull HD teammates (Julian Madore and Chris Swett) in the SuperCup Series got into each other collecting Andrew Hayes in the melee.
As the field raced back to the start/finish line, Kyle Young who had restarted the race in 7th, moved his way up to 3rd and dove under Tyler Tucker to take the lead in turn three. Meanwhile Pete Engelmanas who led the most laps (36) got together with Matt Riley, Bertus De Jong and Austin Penney on the back straightaway.
Four trucks would race back to the checkered flag, but no one would be able to get by Kyle Young as he took his first CASCOR THL Truck Series victory in his first Truck Series start at Daytona. Tyler Tucker would be able to hang on to 2nd, Matt Trace 3rd, Mike Husby 4th and Matt Riley rounded out the top 5. Brent Sweet was caught up in the madness spinning out in turn three on the final lap, but managed to still bring it home 6th, Andrew Hayes 7th, Julian Madore 8th, Pete Engelmanas 9th and Austin Penney rounded out the top 10.
Next time the CASCOR THL Truck Series would take to the track, would be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Would any of the drivers who had misfortunes be able to rebound at Vegas? Or would we see another first time winner? Find out later today on http://CASCORSimRacing.blogspot.com
