Las Vegas, NV -- The CASCOR SuperCup Series got the "real" season underway at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway last week.Pete Engelmanas and Mike Husby led the field to the green flag for the inaugural SuperCup Series race at Las Vegas. Engelmanas jumped out to the early lead, but the first caution would fly on lap one for an incident involving Austin LaPlante and David Damboise.
Eight cautions would slow the pace of the race and would involve several top 5 contenders including Pete Engelmanas, Johnny Williams and Brent Sweet throughout the event.
A restart with 10 laps to go would see Mike Husby and Brent Sweet lead the field back to the green flag. Husby would pull away slightly on the restart but Sweet would look to run him back down. Sweet and Julian Madore who had been running in the top 5 all night made contact with 2 laps to go, going into turn three. Sweet was sent spinning and fell to a dismal 6th place finish.
This caution would end the race under the yellow flag as Mike Husby took his first win of the 2012 season at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Julian Madore finishes 2nd, Andrew Hayes 3rd, Wayne Osborne 4th and Chris Swett rounded out the top 5. Brent Sweet salvaged a 6th place finish, David Damboise 7th, newcomer Ryan Spaulding came home 8th, Pete Engelmanas with a torn up car finished 9th and Johnny Williams rounded out the top 10.
Next week the CASCOR SuperCup Series heads back to the paper clip shaped Martinsville Speedway for the first short track race of the season. Will we see another new face in victory lane? Or can Mike Husby repeat at Martinsville? Find out on Monday March 5th, 2012 at 8pm EST, you won't want to miss any of the action!
