Tucker persists on the outside to take Irwindale win

Irwindale, CA -- As the CASCOR Winter Late Model series rolled into the Irwindale Speedway, the championship had already been decided. However several drivers still had a lot to prove in these final two races. And who would be able to claim victory with Matt Riley seemingly absent from the venue?

The 8 car field would time trial for position, with Justin Collision and Tyler Tucker on the front row. Tyler Tucker would take the lead after Collison led on lap 1. Shortly after, Tucker took the lead, Collison would spin out of turn 2, bringing out the first yellow of the night. Tucker would choose the outside line on the restart, with Andrew Hayes lining up inside as they brought the field down to the restart on lap 8.

Yellow would fly again on lap 11 when Brent Sweet made contact with Kyle Young in turn 1, causing a chain reaction that included Tyler Tucker, Johnny Williams and Bertus De Jong. The restart came on lap 17 with Collison back in the top spot. Andrew Hayes muscled his way back to 2nd spot, with Bertus De Jong surprisingly in tow, taking the 3rd position from Kyle Young. Tyler Tucker would take the 4th spot, just before Kyle Young spun and brought the caution out on lap 28. Mike Husby parked for the evening due to electrical issues (warp).

The entire field would pit under the yellow, with the green flying again on lap 35. Justin Collison would pick the inside lane with Andrew Hayes offering a strong challenge on the outside. Tyler Tucker would then use the high line a few laps later to work his way past Hayes as Brent Sweet followed close behind. The yellow would fly yet again, as Collison spun off of turn 2, not doing any damage in the process. This yellow set up for one of the most exciting finishes in CASCOR history.

Tyler Tucker would lead the field to the green on the outside, with Hayes inside, Sweet 3rd, and Young 4th. Hayes would take the lead from Tucker a few laps later, as the field stayed single file.

With 5 laps to go the action really started to heat up. As Tyler Tucker would put pressure on Andrew Hayes, with Brent Sweet a mere 2 car lengths behind. Tucker would again battle on the outside with Hayes. When the white flag was waved, Tucker pulled away by a car length on Hayes going into turn 1. Tucker would gain a slight advantage down the backstretch, with Young applying the pressure for 3rd.

Tyler Tucker would take the win, with a photo finish for 2nd and 3rd. Hayes took 2nd, with Brent Sweet barely edging out Kyle Young for 3rd. Young was 4th, Johnny Williams 5th,Bertus De Jong 6th, Justin Collison had a disappointing day in 7th, and Mike Husby rounded out the field in 8th.

With 1 race to go in the 2011 CASCOR Winter Late Model series, Matt Riley has already locked up the championship. Positions 2 through 4, however, are only separated by 35 points. Could Brent Sweet finally notch a win in what has been a disappointing year so far? Can Mike Husby hold on to 2nd place in the standings while a hard charging Justin Collison looks to take the maiden spot? We will find out in the last race of the season, the Casino Arizona 50 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Collison Dominates @ Delaware

Delaware, ON --
The CASCOR Winter Late Model series headed north of the border last Tuesday night, when they invaded the Delaware Speedway in Delaware, ON Canada.

Canadian drivers Justin Collison and Mike Husby made up the front row and led the field down to the green flag.

The first seven laps went caution free before the #92 of Kyle Young spun out in turn three, bringing the caution out for the first time of the night. Most of the field came down pit road under this caution, while Mike Husby and Justin Collison opted to stay out.

Collison and Husby once again led the field back to the green flag. Cool temperatures kept the drivers busy at the wheel, as most of them were slipping and sliding around the track all night.

Brent Sweet went into the spin cycle off of turn 4, bringing out the second caution of the night. All of the leaders came down pit road under this caution period for four tires.

Once again Collison and Husby led the field back to the green flag on lap 42. Ten laps later another caution flew when Wesley Hoag and Charli Brown got together off of turn 4, bringing out the third caution of the night.

Two drivers (Matt Riley and Mike Husby) made their way down pit road under the caution and lined up 5th and 6th with what would be a three lap shootout to the finish.

This time Justin Collison and Brent Sweet led the field back to the green flag, with some crazy racing taking place in the final three laps. A wild moment came with just two laps to go, when Kyle Young got loose off of turn 2, making contact with Matt Riley that set off a four car wreck down the back straightaway.

Meanwhile Justin Collison would take the victory while the rest of the running order from 5th on back had to be reviewed. Brent Sweet took his first top 5 since December 6th, 2011 finishing 2nd, Charli Brown battled back to finish 3rd, Wesley Hoag 4th and Matt Riley rounded out the top 5. Mike Husby after getting involved in the big wreck on the back straight brought his car home 6th, Bertus De Jong finished 7th, Kyle Young 8th and Austin Penney rounded out the finishing order in 9th.

Tonight the CASCOR Winter Late Model series heads to the Evergreen Speedway, with Matt Riley having a shot at clinching the championship. If Riley finishes ahead of Mike Husby and Justin Collison tonight, he will clinch his first NR2k3 Championship and first at CASCOR. We at CASCOR wish you and Northern Motorsports luck in tonights race.

The drivers meeting will get underway at 8:05pm EST! Be there!

Riley Continues Strong Season with Win @ Southern National

Kenly, NC -- The CASCOR Winter Late Model series ran their first race of the new year last week at Southern National Raceway. Once again lower than average car counts gave the field the opportunity to qualify for their starting positions.

Matt Riley would lay down the fastest lap and started on pole, with Brent Sweet starting alongside. The two drivers led the field down to the green flag for the start of the Dickies 50.

The race would go green flag for the first 24 laps, before seeing the first caution of the night for a spin by Brent Sweet in turn three.

Matt Riley and Bretus De Jong led the field back to green on lap 30. Another caution came out shortly after the restart when Charli Brown got loose in turn 4, sending him for a spin.

Riley and De Jong once again led the field back to green on lap 37. But again the caution flew again involving the #46 of Charli Brown and the #7 of Brent Sweet.

Riley and Tyler Tucker led the field back to green with 7 laps to go. Riley would hold on for the final 7 laps to win his 4th A Feature of the season. Tyler Tucker gave his all coming home 2nd, Mike Husby 3rd, Charli Brown came from the back twice to finish 4th and Wesley Hoag rounded out the top 5. Tonight the CASCOR Winter Late Model series heads to the Delaware Speedway for what hopes to be another great night of racing. Matt Riley has a 161 point lead over 2nd place Mike Husby. But behind him is still up for grabs. Who will take home the win tonight? And can anyone stop the dominance of Matt Riley? Find out tonight, when the action gets underway with the drivers meeting starting at 8:05pm EST!

Thompson, CT -- Two weeks ago the CASCOR Winter Late Model series took to the high banks of Thompson International Speedway. Unfortunately 8 drivers showed up to the event canceling the usual heat races and drivers started by where they qualified for this event.

Justin Collison and Wesley Hoag brought the field down to the green flag for the start of the Town Fair Tire 50.

The restart came on lap 8 with Justin Collison and Mike Husby leading the field back to the green flag. But the second caution of the night came out on lap 12, slowing the racing action once again. This time for an incident involving Brent Sweet and Bertus De Jong in turn 2.

Matt Riley and Justin Collison led the field back to green on lap 18. Two more cautions would fly ending the race under caution.
