Riley Wins Again @ South Boston

South Boston, VA -- The CASCOR Winter Late Model Series headed to South Boston last Tuesday night. But the question everyone was asking in the garage was, can anyone stop the dominance of Matt Riley? Or is he going to walk away with this championship?

Heat #1 got the evening started off with Charli Brown and Thomas Mohl Jr. starting on the front row, as they led the field down to the green flag.

Two cautions slowed the action but a green-white-checkered finish would top off another great heat race as Charli Brown and Thomas Mohl Jr. would once again lead the field back to the green flag, this time with 2 laps to go.

The drivers would make the finish very exciting, but Charli Brown would take home the win in heat #1. Thoma Mohl Jr. stayed on the back bumper of Brown for the entire heat race to finish 2nd, Matt Riley took home 3rd after starting at the rear, Mike Husby moved his way up to 4th from the back as well and Tim Johnston rounded out the top 5. Bertus De Jong brought his car home 6th, Robert Hill finished 7th and Brent Sweet rounded out the finishing order in 8th.

Heat #2 got underway shortly after with Justin Collison and Wesley Hoag leading the field down to the green flag.

The race would go caution free, as Justin Collison took his 2nd heat race victory of the season. Wesley Hoag finished a close 2nd, Brandon Hauck made his way to 3rd after starting 8th, Andrew Hayes finished 4th and newcomer Wayne Osbourne rounded out the top 5. Kyle Young finished 6th, Pete Engelmanas 7th and Austin Penney rounded out the finishing order in 8th.

Random qualifying would once again decide the starting order for the feature, and Charli Brown drew the pole position. Thomas Mohl Jr. would start alongside Brown in 2nd position as the led the field down to the green flag for the 51 lap race.

Caution flew for the first of eight times during the race on lap 2 for an incident between the #18 of Wayne Osbourne and the #13 of Justin Collison. With cautions plaguing most of the feature, drivers weren't able to run many green flag laps. But the final restart of the night would come with 4 laps to go.

Matt Riley and Charli Brown dominated the night leading 31 laps combined. Both drivers would lead the field down to the green flag for the final restart of the night.

The caution would fly shortly after the drivers took the green flag, as the the leaders would battle it out for second spot in turn 3, taking it three wide for the position.

And Matt Riley held off all the charges thrown at him to win his 3rd feature of the season. Tim Johnston took 2nd in an exciting race to the line, Justin Collison came home 3rd, Pete Englemanas 4th and Charli Brown fell to 5th on the final restart, rounding out the top 5. Brandon Hauck brought his #20 car home 6th, Andrew Hayes 7th, Bertus De Jong 8th, Kyle Young came home 9th in his debut and Austin Penney rounded out the top 10. Mike Husby was caught up in a late race wreck coming home 11th, Brent Sweet was also caught up in a wreck that brought out the last caution finishing 12th, Thomas Mohl Jr. and Wesley Hoag rounded out the finishing order in 13th and 14th, and were both involved in wrecks as well.

This week the CASCOR Winter Late Model Series heads to Thompson International Speedway for the Town Fair Tire 50. Will Matt Riley continue his dominance? Or can someone put a stop to it? Find out tonight at 8pm EST with practice set to get underway at 8:10pm EST!
