Fraserville, ON -- The CASCOR Canadian Tire Series rolled into the Kawartha Speedway, Sunday night for the final event of the 2011 season.
Matt Riley and Justin Collison led the field to the green flag. Collison would use the high side to his advantage off the start, as many drivers battled wheel spin on the start as Collison took over the lead. Collison would show that he had the dominant car, leading the most laps of any driver.
Four caution flags slowed the event with the final caution coming out with 20 laps to go, for a spinning Collison off the front bumper of Mike Husby. This set up a wild 17 lap dash for the victory.
Matt Riley led the field back to the green flag with Justin Collison in hot pursuit. Collison would throw everything he had at Riley in the closing laps, but came up a car length short of the victory.
Riley wins his first career CASCOR event as well as his first Canadian Tire Series win. Justin Collison finished a close 2nd, Mike Husby battled back to a 3rd place finish, Will Goshen got loose with two laps to go and fell to 4th, and Robert Hill rounded out the top 5.
Mike Husby went on to clinch the Canadian Tire Series championship. His first Canadian Tire Series championship since the league began in 2009. "I can't believe how good of a season we had. We managed to finish in the top 5 in every race we ran this year. It's just unbelieveable. After the past two seasons of terrible luck, we were finally able to put it all behind us and went after the championship this year. And we finally got it!" - Husby said.
The CASCOR Administration would like to thank everyone that participated this year in the Canadian Tire Series and look forward to more people participating next year. This year we had a lot of repeat winners, but at the same time, had some of the most fun and competitive races this series has produced. Enjoy the Winter Late Model Series starting up in November and have a great off season!
