Riley Wins Again @ South Boston

South Boston, VA -- The CASCOR Winter Late Model Series headed to South Boston last Tuesday night. But the question everyone was asking in the garage was, can anyone stop the dominance of Matt Riley? Or is he going to walk away with this championship?

Heat #1 got the evening started off with Charli Brown and Thomas Mohl Jr. starting on the front row, as they led the field down to the green flag.

Two cautions slowed the action but a green-white-checkered finish would top off another great heat race as Charli Brown and Thomas Mohl Jr. would once again lead the field back to the green flag, this time with 2 laps to go.

The drivers would make the finish very exciting, but Charli Brown would take home the win in heat #1. Thoma Mohl Jr. stayed on the back bumper of Brown for the entire heat race to finish 2nd, Matt Riley took home 3rd after starting at the rear, Mike Husby moved his way up to 4th from the back as well and Tim Johnston rounded out the top 5. Caution flew for the first of eight times during the race on lap 2 for an incident between the #18 of Wayne Osbourne and the #13 of Justin Collison. With cautions plaguing most of the feature, drivers weren't able to run many green flag laps. But the final restart of the night would come with 4 laps to go.

Matt Riley and Charli Brown dominated the night leading 31 laps combined. Both drivers would lead the field down to the green flag for the final restart of the night.

The caution would fly shortly after the drivers took the green flag, as the the leaders would battle it out for second spot in turn 3, taking it three wide for the position.

And Matt Riley held off all the charges thrown at him to win his 3rd feature of the season. Tim Johnston took 2nd in an exciting race to the line, Justin Collison came home 3rd, Pete Englemanas 4th and Charli Brown fell to 5th on the final restart, rounding out the top 5. Husby Sneaks Out a Win @ Ace Speedway!

Altamahaw, NC -- Last week the CASCOR Winter Late Model series hit the track at Ace Speedway for the Ace Hardware 50. Would we see a new face in victory lane? Or can Matt Riley keep up his early dominance?

It all started with Heat #1 to get things underway for the evening. Charli Brown and Brent Sweet led the field to the green flag.

Five cautions slowed the pace of the race, but the drivers made up for it, with two attempts at a green-white-checker finish.

The first attempt would result in a caution not too long after the green flag had come out. But the drivers would give it a second try and produced another great finish.

Matt Riley and Wesley Hoag led the field back to the green flag with 2 laps to go. Riley wouldn't get a very good restart and Hoag jumped into the lead.

Hoag would hold on to win his 2nd heat race of the season. Matt Riley finishes 2nd, Justin Collison 3rd, Charli Brown 4th and Robert Hill rounded out the top 5. Brent Sweet (6th) and Johnny Williams (7th) had engine troubles after getting in a wreck together and rounded out the finishing order.

Heat #2 would get underway shortly after with Tyler Tucker and Bertus De Jong leading the field down to the green flag.

The race would go caution free as Tyler Tucker led all the way, taking his first heat race victory of the season. Mike Husby was all over the rear of Tucker throughout the heat and finishes 2nd, Will Goshen came home 3rd, Thomas Mohl Jr. rallied from the back to finish 4th, and Tim Johnston rounded out the top 5. Bertus De Jong would round out the finishing order in 6th.

After the heats concluded it was time to draw for starting positions in the Feature races. Tyler Tucker would draw the pole and Bertus De Jong would take the outside pole position as the two would lead the field down to the green flag for the 50 lap event.

The first caution of the night came out for contact between Wesley Hoag and Tyler Tucker. Both drivers would be able to continue.

Four more cautions would fly throughout the night, setting up a 7 lap dash to the finish. Charli Brown and Matt Riley led the field back to the green flag with 7 laps to go.

Wesley Hoag would get a good restart and took over the 2nd position as Riley fell back to 4th. But with 3 laps to go Hoag would make contact with the #46 of Charli Brown, keeping both drivers out of victory lane.

The field raced back to the caution as Mike Husby and Will Goshen battled for what would be the race lead.

Husby would just edge out Goshen at the line to take his first feature win of the season. Will Goshen finishes a very close 2nd, Matt Riley 3rd, Brent Sweet 4th and Tyler Tucker rounded out the top 5. Thomas Mohl Jr. battled back to a 6th place finish after dropping back from a late race caution, Tim Johnston came home 7th, Charli Brown 8th, Robert Hill 9th and Wesley Hoag rounded out the top 10. Matt Riley Dominates @ Wall!

Wall, NJ -- The CASCOR Winter Late Model series returned to racing last week, at the Wall Township Speedway in Wall, NJ. Who would take the checkers this week? And would the points be shuffled once again?

Heat #1 would get underway with with Thomas Mohl Jr. and Andrew Hayes leading the field to the green flag.

The caution flew for the one and only time during the heat for a 3 car incident on the back straightaway before the completion of lap one.

Thomas Mohl Jr. and Brent Sweet led the field back to the green flag, with Mohl getting a good restart and led 9 laps during the race.

But Justin Collison would mount a charge late in the race as he chased down Mohl for the top spot. With only one lap to go Collison drove his car deep into turn 3 getting Mohl just a little bit loose. Mohl had to move up the track as a result as the two drivers drag raced their way to the start finish line for the checkered flag.

Justin Collison would edge Mohl at the line by just a nose to pick up his first heat win of the season. Mohl took 2nd, Matt Riley 3rd, Will Goshen 4th and Brent Sweet rounded out the top 5. Tyler Tucker came home 6th, Andrew Hayes had gearbox issues all night finishing 7th and Robert Hill rounded out the finishing order in 8th.

After that exciting photo finish to Heat #1, it was on to Heat #2. Dynamite Motorsports Group teammates Charli Brown and Shawn Breitzman started on the front row and led the field to the green flag.

Wesley Hoag finishes 2nd, Mike Husby 3rd, newcomer Jake Morris took 4th, Bertus De Jong rounded out the top 5 and Shawn Breitzman rounded out the finishing order in 6th place. After two very quick heat races it was time for the A Feature. Shawn Breitzman and Matt Riley led the field down to the green flag for 75 laps at Wall Stadium.

The caution flew for the first time of the event on lap one for the a spin by Will Goshen in turn 4. Four more cautions would fly before the final caution of the night came out on lap 38. Unfortunately CASCOR officials had to call the race due to unforeseen problems with the track, that caused the pace car to get stuck in the inside wall.

Matt Riley would be the only other driver than Shawn Breitzman to lead the race and took home the victory, his 2nd feature win of the season. Jordan Morris took home 2nd, Mike Husby 3rd, Tyler Tucker 4th and Brent Sweet rounded out the top 5. Shawn Breitzman rallied back from an early pit stop to finish 6th, Thomas Mohl Jr. came home 7th, Robert Hill 8th, Justin Collison 9th and Charli Brown rounded out the top 10. This week the Winter Late Model series heads to Ace Speedway for what should be one of the most exciting races of the season in the Ace Hardware 50. Who will make it to victory lane in the feature? Sweet would take the early lead on the high side, but was short lived as three laps later spun out by himself in turn 2, but didn't bring out the caution. Not too much later that lap a wreck in turns 3 and 4 brought out the caution for the first time of the night.

Matt Riley and Will Goshen led the field back to green with 7 laps to go. But the caution flew again for a spinning Will Goshen in turn 2.

Riley and Brent Sweet would lead the field back to green once again with 7 laps to go. The field would complete one lap before the caution came out again for a spinning Brent Sweet in turn 4.

Heat #2 got underway with Thomas Mohl Jr. starting on the pole in his first appearance of the season and started alongside Bertus De Jong to bring the field down to the green flag.

Mohl Jr. would lead the first two laps before slipping up the track in turn 2, allowing Wesley Hoag to take over the lead. But a wreck in turn two would slow the action on lap 2, involving Mike Husby, Bertus De Jong and Brandon Hauck.

Wesley Hoag and Charli Brown led the field back to the green flag with 8 laps to go. But the caution flew 3 more times in the race, as the final restart came with 3 laps to go.

Husby finishes 2nd, Wesley Hoag 3rd, Thomas Mohl Jr. 4th and Shawn Breitzman rounded out the top 5. Charli Brown finished 6th and Bertus De Jong rounded out the finishing order in 7th.

After two pretty exciting heat races, it was time for the A Feature. By virtue of the random qualifying draw, Will Goshen and Shawn Breitzman started on the front row and led the field down to the green flag.

The caution flew right away for a spin by Johnny Williams in turn 3. Several cautions slowed the first half of the race and CASCOR officials decided it was best to go to single file restarts for the rest of the race.

Caution flew for the second to last time of the night with 11 laps to go, for a wreck in turn four involving Brandon Hauck and Charli Brown.

This would set up a 6 lap dash for the win on the restart. Wesley Hoag led Mike Husby, Austin Penney, Will Goshen and Brent Sweet the top 5 down to the restart.

Hoag and Husby pulled away from the field on the restart as the rest of the drivers duked it out behind them. But with three laps to go, Husby turned race leader, Hoag around in turn 1. As a result, Husby would have to go to the tail of the lead lap cars and Austin Penney in his first start, took home the feature win.

Penney wins, Will Goshen finishes 2nd, Justin Collison 3rd, Matt Riley 4th and Brent Sweet rounded out the top 5. Charli Brown brought his car home 6th, Bertus De Jong 7th, Wesley Hoag 8th, Thomas Mohl Jr. 9th and Brandon Hauck rounded out the top 10.

Riley takes the checkers at Stafford

Stafford Springs, CT -- The CASCOR Winter Late Model series headed East, as their second race of the season took place at the Stafford Motor Speedway. 13 cars would take the Green at the Stafford 50 lapper.

The Green flag would drop in heat number 1 with Brent Sweet on the pole and Ben Althen on the outside. Justin Collison took the 4th position from Matt Riley on lap 3. On lap 4 Collison would pass Tim Johnston for 3rd and attempted to make a pass on 2nd place Ben Althen. Collison made contact with Althen, sending him spinning and brought out the first caution. The green would fly again as Sweet led them down with Tim Johnston 2nd.

Ben Althen dug deep into turn 1 and took 2nd place, but lost it going down the backstretch. Robert Hill would spin in turn 1 a lap later but no caution would fly. Collision would move up to 2nd followed by a hard charging Riley. Robert Hill would spin again right in front of the leaders and brought out the yellow on lap 6.

Collison and Sweet would make contact coming to the restart, with Collison taking the lead after getting a good jump. Andrew Hayes would spin
on the backstretch as Brent Sweet overdrove turn 3 and got into Collison, collecting Riley as well. Riley would take the lead due to the time of the yellow coming out.

Riley and Tim Johnston would lead the field back to the green. Collision would make a charge back to the front, but didn’t have enough time to challenge Matt Riley. Riley wins, Johnson 2nd, with Althen 3rd.

Will Goshen would lead the field down to the green in Heat 2 with Wesley Hoag on the outside. Hoag and Goshen would battle side by side for the lead as Shawn Breitzman would get loose out of turn 2, collecting Will Wolf in the process. The yell
ow would not fly for that incident, but it would come out when Mike Husby got loose off of turn 2 in a single car spin.

Will Goshen would be able to retake the lead on the restart, right before contact ensued between Breitzman, Will Wolf and Hoag. Wolf would go head-on into the backstretch wall but would be able to continue. On the restart Goshen would feel some pressure from Husby on the outside. Breitzman would lose it by himself but would not bring out a yellow.

Brandon Hauck would go into turn 2 deep on the white flag lap, forcing Wolf to overdrive and collect Husby in the process. Will Goshen would win, Wesley Hoag finished 2nd, with Hauck rounding out the podium.

Once feature time rolled around, the field was ready to get down to business. After the field redrew for position, Mike Husby would be on the pole with Brent Sweet starting 2nd. After taking the green, Sweet would fall back as he was trapped on the outside, with Will Wolf and Matt Riley passing him on the bottom. Shawn Breitzman would spin on the front stretch and bringing out the yellow, narrowly avoiding contact with Andrew Hayes and Tim Johnston. On the lap 10 restart Ben Althen would be slow coming up to speed, stacking up multiple cars behind him in the process.

Meanwhile, Will Wolf would power his way into the lead a lap later, getting by Husby on the inside. Will Goshen and Wesley Hoag would make contact out of turn 2 on lap 16, sending Hoag spinning and bringing out the yellow. Will Wolf would elect to start on the outside on the restart, and would get a good jump on Husby. Husby was slow coming up to speed, and was passed by Riley for the 2nd spot. Wesley Hoag would start a charge back to the front, but would clip the left rear of Sweet’s car going into turn 1, bringing out the caution again on lap 23. The restart on lap 29 would see Wolf lead while Riley was 2nd. Andrew Hayes would get the 3rd spot from Husby, and Husby would be passed by Justin Collison for 4th on the same lap. Justin Collison would spin by himself on the backstretch shortly after, bringing out the yellow on lap 31.

The green would fly on lap 37, with Matt Riley giving Wolf a challenge for the lead on the outside. Brandon Hauck would take the 4th position from Hayes right before Collison and Sweet made contact out of turn 2, sending Sweet spinning into the infield and bringing out another yellow at lap 39.

On the restart Riley would get a great jump and was able to take the lead from Wolf, with cars going three wide into turn 1 behind them. Tim Johnston would be the unlucky one from that situation, as he was sent spinning, bringing the yellow out again at lap 44.

The race would end under caution with Matt Riley the winner, Will Wolf 2nd, Brandon Hauck 3rd, Mike Husby 4th, Wesley Hoag would round out the top 5. Will Goshen was 6th, Shawn Breitzman 7th, Ben Althen 8th, Andrew Hayes 9th and Brent Sweet 10th. Tim Johnston would finish 11th, Justin Collison 12th and Robert Hill would round out the field in 13th.

Next week the CASCOR Latemodel Series heads to Barrie Speedway for the Pizza Pizza 75. Will we see Matt Riley repeat as a winner? Or will a new face be seen in victory lane?
